Sleepy Baby

FAQ

Is the casting material safe?

Yes, absolutely! The impression material used for the casting is dental alginate.  Worldwide, this material is used by dentists in children's mouths as well as by lifecasters to make moulds. It is completely safe to use on babies' hands and feet. However, if your child has any kind of skin problem or allergy, we recommend seeking advice from your GP before having a cast done just to be on the safe side.

What age can babies castings be taken?

We know how important those first moments are with your precious baby so we know you may want to come very early to capture your new arrivals impressions. Castings can be taken from birth all the way up to adult!

What happens during the appointment?

We will show you samples of the different frames, paint colours and engraved name-plates to assist you with designing your new framed little miracle.

Once everyone's happy and relaxed, we will take the mould of your baby’s hands and/or feet.
The actual casting process only takes 2 minutes and you will be holding your baby throughout.  Babies are welcome to have a rest, feed or both in between moulds.

Once your moulds are made, they will be cast later that day and left to dry out. Then they will be detailed, finished, painted and framed before they are all completed

What if my baby is too wriggly during the casting?

As parents ourselves, we know how much babies like to move, the good news is they can wriggle as much as they like! The material will only register the last movement right before it sets, so wriggly fingers and toes are not a problem. Babies are welcome to have a rest, feed or both during the appointment too - we work around you.

How long until I get my castings back?

Turn around time is approx. 4/6 weeks, as lots of love and attention goes into each and every cast to ensure the best finish.

What should my baby wear?

The process itself for the person being cast is generally mess free, however I do always advise to wear old clothes and clothing that allows for easy access of hands and feet.

Where do appointments take place?

The appointments take place at my home address, which is in Gedling, Nottingham, NG4.
End of life and memorial bookings are all mobile.

Do you offer discounts?

With each piece being bespoke and made completely around your own designs, I rarely offer discounts. However, if more than one piece is being brought this may be a possibility.
Discounts are also given for groups that book such as baby groups, nurseries.

How do I pay?

A 50% deposit is taken on the day of the appointment and the remainder of the balance is due 4/6 weeks later, on collection of the order.
Payment can be made by cash, card, bank transfer or PayPal
